Margaret Henningsen was a founder of Legacy Bank, a state chartered commercial bank that was in the heart of the city of Milwaukee. At the age of 50, she followed her dream of addressing the lack of comprehensive banking services for women and minorities in her community. An advocate for empowering them, she recognized that the ability to create wealth was necessary to transform lives.
She later served as the Executive Director of the Women’s Fund of Greater Milwaukee funding women and girls led social change initiatives. She served as a consultant and Community Advisor for Forward Community Investments and as a real estate broker helped women and minorities build wealth through ownership of real estate. Margaret is also founder of the Milwaukee Juneteenth Day celebration.
Over the past 55+ years, she has served on numerous boards; and, as a mentor to hundreds of women. She is mom to Maya Joy; loves being big sister to her 9 siblings; and, having fun being Auntie Margaret with her 56 nieces and nephews.
