Ulice Payne, Jr. is the Managing Member of Addison-Clifton. As an advisor regarding global trade compliance solutions, he is responsible for day‑to‑day assignments at the firm and is primarily responsible for client development and client relationship management.
“I love to help provide solutions to challenges that arise. I’m motivated daily by the different compliance and trade challenges that our clients face,” says Payne. “Each day is different regarding the types of commodities, end-items and technology that is being imported or exported around the globe.”
Mr. Payne earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration and his Juris Doctor in Law degree from Marquette University. Upon graduating, he traveled to England and spent two years participating in the Masters of Law program at the University of London. He also received an honorary doctorate degree from Marion College in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Prior to founding Addison-Clifton in the spring of 2004, Mr. Payne served as the Managing Partner of the headquarter office of Foley & Lardner and served as the Chair of the International Business Team where he represented global and domestic companies in cross-border transactions.
Mr. Payne believes that Addison-Clifton’s ability to communicate and willingness to respond promptly sets it apart from other firms. “We are relatively small in number, and located across four offices,” explains Payne. “But we work well as a team and stand ready to provide our clients with solutions 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days of the year.”
When it comes to managing a growing, global firm, one might think there is no such thing as a day off. However, Mr. Payne turns to music as an outlet to unwind and reflect. “I like to share great songs with friends and create special playlists for almost every occasion,” he says. “Music gives me comfort and reminds me of some important years in my life and my career. It always keeps me company.”
